Hi there, my name is Mark. My spectacular wife Ellen and I have dreamed about a family overlanding adventure, well... since long before we even had a family. Now that our children are 8 and 10 years old we've decided that it's time to go for it. We've taken the kids out of school, rented-out our home in Mountain View Ca, temporarily stepped away from our careers (much thanks to our amazing business partners!), and we have hit the road!
I'll be using this blog to share information about our rig, trip logistics, navigation, etc. If you want to learn more about our family, daily activities, exploring, and homeschooling please feel free to visit Ellen's blog.
The buttons below will take you to pages that cover all sorts of technical info. I'll also be doing my best to keep the blog portion updated as our adventures progress.

Meet the Overlhanders!


Hi, we're the Overlhanders. Okay, okay that's not really our last name, that's just what it says on our truck's license plate. Anyway, here's some information about us;


My name is Mark, although these days most people call me "Sparky" (you should too)... that is, 'cept for the little people at the bottom this page, they call me Daddy.
I am the Chief Product Officer  at Ring. Prior to Ring, I spent 10 years as a mechanical engineer of the design firm IDEO, and before that I designed bicycle accessories for Specialized.
I love building and making and I have spent lots and lots of time upgrading our truck camper in preparation for this trip. 
I am also involved with Burning Man and, among other roles, for the past 7 years I have been one of the people who builds the wooden effigy that is burned at the end of the festival. 
When I can find some free time I like to build and fly RC models.

Hello my name is Sophia and I am 8 years old. I am very excited about traveling with my mommy, my daddy, and my brother!
I like reading... especially on my new Kindle Paperwhite. I also have an American Doll named Paige and I also have an invisible kitten who is traveling with us. Her name is Kitty LaCatcha.
